This Rhino is a combination of my two main interests, nature and pattern. The illustration was handdawn with fineliner and ink, and then reproduced as a print, which then is hand painted with liquid Gold Leaf on the horns. Painting the rhino horns gold gives an added depth to the illustration and also can represent a symbolism as the rhinos currency. As the rhino has been sort after for centuries for its prized horns , resulting the rhino critically endangered in the 21st century.
Rhinoceros, often abbreviated as rhino, is a group of five extant species of odd-toed ungulates in the family Rhinocerotidae. Two of these species are native to Africa and three to Southern Asia.

Rhino's are killed by humans for their horns, which are bought and sold on the black market, and which are used by some cultures for ornamental or traditional medicinal purposes.
